Selected and nominated charities

Meeting: June, 2024
At our June meeting, the selected charity was Building Peaceful BridgesThank you to the generous members of Women Giving Back who donated a total of $9,864

Donations
  • $6,150 for Building Peaceful Bridges (including a $150 gift card awarded to it by Abt Appliance Company).  This represents cash only and doesn’t include clothing, suitcases, kitchen essentials, linens. toys and baby equipment donated to assist refugees and migrants who have nothing to furnish apartments when they are moved from shelters.

  • $3,714 to Our House of Hope.  Many people said their donation to my favorite animal charity was in memory of our beloved hound dog Buster, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge in March.  I appreciated that more than words can express.  The founder of OHOH, Lisa Krinninger, created a sticker using Buster's handsome face and it is affixed to the bags of dog treats. “ Buster's Biscuits” are distributed to each canine client of the only free pet food pantry in Lake County.

More Details

People have been incredibly generous in donating goods for the refugees.  My garage has been emptied three times by volunteers picking up things for their clients, and my living room and sitting room look like a messy warehouse.  Over 30 people donated clothing and goods in beautiful condition.  Thank you to all, but a shout out to some who went above and beyond: Barri. Bonnie, Darlene, Dia and daughter Abby, Jennie, Joan, Karen B, Karen C and Rob, Kim, Linda H. (WOW!) Lynda A, Mary E and her neighbors, Nancy and daughter Randi, Rhonda and daughter Emily, Sheree, Susan B and Terri.

So many others donated goods and apologies if I didn't mention you.  There were so many, and it's hard to remember them all.  Special thanks to Pam L who has come over and created semi organization out of chaos.  So much appreciated!

Donations of goods still needed for the kitchen essentials packing party:

  • large pots and large pans

  • Baking Sheets

  • Mixing bowls

  • Colanders

  • Large Ikea Bags

Thanks for your generous donations!
