Selected and nominated charities
Meeting: June 30, 2025
We raised $8,225 at our 21st meeting! Thank you.
WGB's collective giving raised much needed funds for 4 great charities. Since our inception, our group has raised $231,219.00 in cash for wonderful small charities. That does not include the uncounted thousands of in kind donations of clothing, food, school supplies, pet food and supplies, furniture and household items, as well as money donated for refugee families. A special thanks to those who donated to help the 2 refugee families I have "adopted".
SELECTED CHARITY
Lighthouse Housing Alliance, the selected charity at our June meeting garnered an even $4,800 from 46 donors. Its mission is to help those facing a crisis of housing instability in the northwest suburbs and Lake County. The Lighthouse Housing Alliance is committed to guiding families out of a dark season toward a brighter future. Their unwavering dedication to providing compassionate support, empowering solutions, and fostering community collaboration positions us to make a lasting impact on families in crisis.

NOMINATED CHARITY

WINGS received $1,650 from 20 people to assist in its mission to provide housing, integrated services, education and advocacy to break the cycle of domestic violence. Every nine second a women is beaten or abused in the United States. WINGS services are funded, in part, by proceeds from their three resale stores. These stores are known for their selection of high-quality, donated merchandise which includes clothing for women, children, and men, as well as an excellent array of housewares, accessories, jewelry, and furniture. The stores are in Arlington Heights, Niles, and Schaumburg. Many members of WGB donate items to
these resale stores.

NOMINATED CHARITY

Chicago Help Initiative got $1,575 from 18 donors to help provide the underserved in Chicago with needed services such as meals, clothing, shelter and social services. CHI is putting a stop to hunger by providing meals and access to social service to Chicagoans who are experiencing homelessness, hunger, and economic insecurity. In addition, they are dedicated to connecting our guests to the resources and social services they need to improve the quality of their lives. Each week, volunteers, generous benefactors, and sponsors give their time to assist those who are less fortunate. WGB members can join their efforts by volunteering to be part of the solution and helping today to make a better tomorrow for Chicagoans in need.

NOVEMBER 2024 WINNER
Finally, the grandmother of Maddie Kramer who inspired her parents to start Dancing While Cancering in her memory, gave a short presentation describing what our donations from last November are used for. Its mission is to give gifts and experiences that bring joy to the hospital experience for newly diagnosed pediatric cancer patients. These include welcome Smile Packs, Maddie's Character Closet, as well as monthly donut deliveries, bedside craft kits, library installations, playroom renovations, customized care packages or room decorations for children undergoing isolating treatments or prolonged hospital stays. That prompted additional donations of $230 on top of the $5,000 we raised for it at our meeting last year.

Thank you all for your generosity in helping those less fortunate than we are!
