Meeting: October 10, 2018
Tonight was Animal Charities Night. This meeting celebrated the outstanding work being done by local animal charities. Several charities were nominated at the meeting and three were presented to the group.
Thanks to everyone who donated! This is the largest amount raised so far at a single meeting--$7300! Wow! A BIG thank you for your generosity to all the charities. So far, we've received $5800 for Horsefeathers, $700 for K-9 Reading Buddies, $700 for SOUL Harbour Ranch, and $100 for Girl Forward!

Selected Charity: Horsefeathers Therapeutic Riding NFP

"Horses change lives. They give people confidence and self-esteem. They provide peace, tranquility and above all else, they provide hope."
Horsefeathers Therapeutic Riding NFP is a supportive treatment program for people of all ages and all abilities. All sessions are conducted one-on-one in a calm, non-competitive environment. Using the unique, powerful movement of the horse to awaken and enhance neuromotor function, Horsefeathers helps riders achieve successes that generalize to daily life and build self-esteem.

Programs include Hippotherapy, Therapeutic Riding, Special Olympics, and private lessons.
Nominated Charity: SOUL Harbour Ranch

SOUL Harbour Ranch is an animal therapy program that uses miniature horses and other animals, including donkeys (currently in training) to provide therapy. SOUL stands for "Sharing of Unconditional Love." The mission of SOUL Harbour Ranch is to enrich lives by promoting unconditional love and healing of the human-animal bond while advocating for animal therapy standards of excellence. The program includes both on-site (at the SOUL Harbor Ranch) and off-site visits.
Nominated Charity: K-9 Reading Buddies
Nominated by Colleen Mann. Carole Yuster, the founder of K-9 Reading Buddies, made the presentation.
K-9 Reading Buddies is a charity that motivates students to read, using therapy dogs on the journey to literacy. K-9 Reading Buddies supplements literacy programs with trained therapy dog teams that help students strengthen their reading skills and boost their confidence. K-9 Reading Buddies services schools (pre-kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high), after-school programs, and library programs. In addition, they support a wide range of communities programs. Since 2007, their therapy dog teams have worked with over 2500 at-risk readers.
